- openSUSE 11.2 op weg naar de finale uitgave – Release candidate beschikbaar!
- "We zijn op weg naar openSUSE 11.2! Vandaag kunnen we met trots de eerste release candidate voor openSUSE 11.2 aankondigen. Deze uitgave bevat behoorlijk wat bugfixes en verscheidene updates, inclusief GNOME 2.28 final, Linux 2.6.31.3, en vele anderen.
- Als eerste release candidate voor openSUSE 11.2, zou het bijna klaar moeten zijn als finale uitgave. Alhoewel, er zijn nog steeds wat overblijvende gekende problemen en het doel van een release candidate is grote porblemen te ontdekken nog voor 11.2 finaal gaat. Het is niet geschikt voor productiesystemen, maar is klaar voor bijdragers die willen helpen met testen en ontwikkeling van 11.2."

- "Ja, Het is een maand geleden dat de openSUSE Conferentie 2009 plaatsvond. En ja, ik ben bedolven geweest onder ander werk zodat ik mijn verslag niet sneller kon schrijven. Zo - hier is het eindelijk. Omdat er al reeds veel berichten geweest zijn als deze, zal ik er gewoon de meest interessante dingen voor mij persoonlijk uit plukken. Ik gaf de "Libyui - Drie interfaces voor de prijs van een code" bespreking en kreeg waardevolle feedback (op de conferentie en later ook, als ik het gesprek herhaalde voor SUSE's Praagse werknemers) over de de bibliotheek nog beter te maken - hoe het maken van pakketten te verbeteren (van Pavol en Martin) en hoe event handling aan te passen (van Reinhard). Omdat mezelf en de dingen die ik doe objectief evalueren nooit mijn sterkste kant is geweest (wat, in andere woorden, betekent dat ik er echt slecht in ben), zal ik met opzet niks meer zeggen daarover :) ;) geniet van de libyui dia's""
- Pavol Rusnak: RPM summit op de openSUSE Conferentie 2009
- "Ik ben er zeker van dat jullie allemaal gehoord hebben over de openSUSE Conferentie 2009 die in September plaatsvond in Nuremberg. Niet velen weten van de RPM Summit die een onderdeel was van de conferentie gedurende de eerste twee dagen. Het idee om zoiets als dit te creëren is gestart op LinuxTag 2009 wanneer Zonker Florian uitnodigde naar Nuremberg. Van het één kwam het andere en op het einde slaagden we erin om verscheidene belangrijke mensen in één kamer te krijgen (of om ons te vergezellen via conference call) en we hielden ze daar tot alle problemen met RPM en pakketbeheer in het algemeen opgelost waren. Niet echt eigenlijk, er was veel te bespreken en dat is er nog steeds, maar je snapt wat ik bedoel. :-)"

- "De laatste twee weken zagen twee verbeteringen over het versnellen van het bouwen van pakketten in de openSUSE Build Service: Een ultra-snelle scheduler en een binary cache voor de werker. Beide veranderingen op zich zouden de server die de jobs toewijzen aan de client moeten versnellen – en de binary cache verbetert de clienten ook daar ze niet elk pakket hoeven te downloaden voor elke build."

- "Sinds KDE 4.3 (resp. Okteta 0.3) heeft Okteta een tool aan boord om een controlesom/hashsom te berekenen van de bytes in de huidige selectie. Het heeft nu van nature ingebouwde controlesom algoritmes (Modulaire som (8/16/32/64 bit), Adler-32, CRC-32), maar steunt voor hashsommen op de QCA lib (Qt Cryptographische architectuur) (kan SHA-0/1/224/256/384/512, MD2/4/5, RIPEMD-160, Whirlpool zijn, afhankelijk van de geïnstalleerde QCA plugins)."

- "Veel dank voor de niet aflatende inspanningen van David Buck en Raymond Wooninck. We hebben Chromium volledig gebouwd vanaf de broncode! Het is beschikbaar vanaf onze Contrib installatiebron (pakket chromium). Ik beveel het gebruik van dit pakket aan in plaats van de verscheidene andere RPM's die de Google Chrome/Chromium binairies herinpakken of degene die in gebruikers hun home map worden gehouden. Veel dank gaat ook uit naar Tom ’spot’ Callaway voor veel van het originele patchwerk, Justin Haygood voor de hulp bij de icu patch en Malcolm Lewis."

- "Ik heb kopete-facebook 0.1.4 uitgebracht waarin de inactieve status van contacten en berichten sturen gerepareerd is. Ik heb nog steeds een paar belangrijke bugs, waarvan ik hoop dat ik ze kan repareren nog voor de openSUSE 11.2 release. Van deze gekende bugs, is één de onmogelijkheid tot het opnieuw verbinden (offline gaan en online), die te wijten is aan het “mezelf” contact die de e-mail gebruikt als userid, die op zijn beurt het gevolg is van een beperking van Kopete die een een id dient te weten. Maar facebook stuurt deze na login. I heb al vele hacks geprobeerd, maar ze zorgen allemaal voor neveneffecten."
- Will Stephenson: Qt 4.6 preview pakketten beschikbaar voor openSUSE
- "Sinds vandaag is de grote dag wanneer KDE trunk start af te hangen van Qt 4.6, Raymond Wooninck (tittiatcoke), community packaging held, heeft gewerkt om ons pakketten te verschaffen van de onuitgebrachte Qt 4.6 in de openSUSE Build Service. Als u KDE trunk wilt ontwikkelen zonder de rompslomp van het compileren van Qt, dan kan u deze pakketten gebruiken (openSUSE 11.1). Ze zullen ze iedere week updaten om recent te blijven naarmate Qt 4.6 zijn release nadert. Hou in gedachten dat we niet verantwoordelijk zijn als u ze installeert en uw KDE pakketten, en alle andere rest die afhangt van Qt, stopt met werken (Alhoewel we wel zullen helpen om alles terug in orde te krijgen) en wanneer 4.6 is uitgebracht, zal het automatisch in de KDE:Qt installatiebron verschijnen."

(In as much as one can in 140 characters…) Bradley takes issue with several FOSS folks talking about the release of Hulu Desktop for Linux. He says, “some denouncing’s needed when otherwise pro-FLOSS ppl jump excitedly to new proprietary stuff.” I disagree — denouncing is never needed in this context. You can’t shame people into embracing your ethics, Bradley — what you can do is lead, teach, and encourage people to embrace your ethics, but people (at least the vast majority) are going to turn a deaf ear to people denouncing them."

- "4,273,291 lines of code, that's the size of the KDE core modules, which are released as the official KDE software distribution, as of today, the numbers generated using David A. Wheeler's SLOCCount. Of course we all know about the problems with counting lines of code, but I still find it interesting to run these statistics from time to time. I was doing so tonight, and thought, when I do so, I can just as well share the data with the world. ..."

- "We have announced Junior Jobs in the Monday and we already have the contributions! People are interested! It's not in factory yet but it's on its way there. Let's be more specific. Currently I'm speaking about bug 546020. David Binderman reported missing free in barcode package. As this is easy to fix, it was marked as a Junior Job. And here comes our community member, Marek Belisko, fixes the bug and sends us submit request. It was accepted by package maintainer and resend to the Factory. He also fixed bug 432596 in libunwind. And again, his fix was approved and it is on its way to the Factory. Once these two fixes (and some more) will be accepted in Factory, his name will be in changelog of these packages forever!"

- "Since it seems it will turn up quite often, I would like to answer the question 'Will openSUSE 11.2 include KDE 4.3.2?'. The short answer is no and yes Smiling. The 4.3.2 release of KDE came too late to be included in openSUSE 11.2. As the distribution release gets closer, there is a certain point after which only reviewed changes should be allowed in, in order to reduce the possibility of these changes causing unexpected breakages that might go unnoticed within the relatively short time until the release. This can happen and it wouldn't be very good to fix something small and break something bigger for the release because of some unnoticed mistake. So openSUSE 11.2 will not officially include KDE 4.3.2."
